San francisco: First International congress of youth voices
Delegates in front of City Hall, San Francisco, CA
Nearly 100 young writers and activists from around the world gathered for the inaugural International Congress of Youth Voices for one weekend in San Francisco this August. These young people learned from one another and a spectacular roster of guest speakers, including U.S. Rep. John Lewis, novelists Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and Khaled Hosseini, Bob Bland and Tabitha St. Bernard-Jacobs of the Women's March on Washington, activists Jose Antonio Vargas and John Prendergast, poet Yalie Kamara, journalist Alia Malek, and many others. This landmark meeting resulted in a youth-written manifesto that was published in The Guardian.
